Geocoding OCMS Clients

Solution

What is Geocoding?

Geocoding is the process of converting addresses (like "1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA") or postal codes into geographic coordinates, which you can use to place markers on a map, or position the map.

What can geocoding be used for?

From simple data analysis to business and customer management to distribution techniques, there is a wide range of applications for which geocoding can be used. With geocoded addresses, you can spatially display the address locations and recognize patterns within the information. You can also display your address information based on certain parameters, allowing you to further analyze the information.

How can you do this with OCMS?

You can run a report showing the various cities that your clients are located in. You can get a list of your clients with their postal codes in Excel file using the Find Client link located in the sidebar and geocode them using the absolutely amazing free software.

The program is called Google Fusion Tables.

You will need to start with a Gmail account if your location does not already use this as their email client. (If you do not have an account click here for instructions).

Once you have a Gmail account you can start by going to Find a Client on the OCMS sidebar.

Find a Clinet in My Agency

Leave this blank if you want a list of all clients who have registered in your agency (this does not mean they have received services), click Search.  Once you see the list of clients click on Add/ Remove Columns.

You can also run a Client Contact List Report by narrowing down your information.

Use the Client Contact Report to include only clients who have received services.

Take some time to play with different reports and information to see what works best for you.
